Piano Tuning & Regulation
What can I do to help keep my piano in tune?
A few simple habits — stable placement, steady climate, and regular service — go a long way toward a tuning that holds.
Staying in tune
Several things help maintain a stable tuning:
- Place your piano away from outside doors. Repeated cold or hot blasts of air when doors open will pull it out of tune more quickly.
- Keep temperature and humidity constant. Drastic swings from hot to cold or dry to moist cause faster drift. A humidity-control system (the “Piano Lifesaver”) can be installed inside your piano — ask your technician.
- Keep up regular maintenance. Have your piano tuned at recommended intervals (at least once or twice a year) by a qualified technician.
