Piano Tuning & Regulation
How Long Does a Piano Tuning Take?
Plan for about an hour to 90 minutes for a standard tuning — longer if your piano needs a pitch raise first.
A standard tuning
Most standard tunings take about one to one-and-a-half hours. The technician needs a reasonably quiet room to hear the instrument, so it helps to keep TVs, dishwashers, and barking dogs to a minimum during the appointment.
If a pitch raise is needed
If the piano has dropped well below pitch, a pitch raise plus the follow-up fine tuning takes longer — often closer to two hours — because it's essentially two tunings in one visit.
Repairs and regulation
Small repairs can sometimes be done on the same visit; larger work like action regulation is scheduled separately, since a full regulation can take several hours and grand actions often go to our shop. We'll always tell you what's needed before we begin.
